Case Study Future

A future-facing, highly sustainable, and beautiful modular living program based loosely on the Case Study Homes (1944-1966) and the core idea that modern, functional and elegant, single and multiple unit residential structures can be made available to a wide audience at a reasonable price. Further, conceived and designed in a manner that allows personal choices within the streamlined and organized structure.  This project, a collaboration between team members Kenneth Jaworski & Martijn van der Hijden, involves ongoing exploration and development.  

Villa, Hilversum NL

Unfortunately, many of our residential projects involve well-known clients who value their privacy, and therefore we are not able to show many of the projects we’ve completed in this genre. However, this project, from a client and friend, is one that the client was proud to share. The existing villa was a bit of an early 90’s mishmash mixing cold surfaces and a smattering of orange. We completely stripped out the interior, built in an additional level, and created a warm and inviting mid-century modern space that mixes both contemporary and vintage furnishings, as well as custom made items and details. The kitchen, for example, is entirely bespoke and was one of the first to actually use the special stainless steel countertop as the cooking work surface. Non-existent at the time, we had to both design the solution and engineer the integration of the cooking mechanism and the top. With its custom, full height doors, and specially-designed flooring, this villa, nestled in the woods, was the perfect home for a young family.
